My 101st blog post! THANK YOU!

If you read my blog post yesterday, Mid Years Resolutions, then you'll know that i'm coming to the end of my 6th month of working on Golden Apple full time.

This blog post (which is my 101st!) is to say thank you to all of the people who have supported, encouraged and helped me along over the past 6 months - I couldn't have done it without you!

There are too many people to thank individually on here, as so many of you have helped me and been so amazing, through featuring me on blogs, inspiring me, offering advice and support and so much more, so if i've tagged you in this post via twitter, here's a great big thank you, you're all amazing!

Mid years resolutions!! {Ca Plane Pour Moi!!}

It's coming to the end of June, which means the end of my 6th month working on Golden Apple full time. Six months ago i was finishing off working at the party venue that I had managed over Christmas, ready to start the scary challenge of working for myself full time!

Overall it's been incredible - I've worked on some exciting projects, been featured on some fabulous blogs, received some wonderful feedback and made friends with some amazing people.

I've had some fantastic days and weeks full of excitement and smiles, as well as some absolutely awful ones full of mardiness and tantrums when I've considered giving up the whole thing and going back to work.

Last week was one of these weeks, and the only thing that stopped me from saying 'Goodbye' to Golden Apple was the amazing support that I received from some incredibly lovely people, so thank you to all of you - you know who you are! :)

Hope Floats, Life Through a Lens)

With the first 6 months coming to an end, I sat down earlier today and wrote my 'Mid years resolutions' to help me improve over the next 6 months...

♥ Reply to ALL emails the day they come in
♥ Get better at sticking to my 'To Do' list
♥ Stop thinking about attending networking events and actually do it!
♥ Blog every day
♥ Don't go on twitter if I'm having an 'off' day
♥ Try and give more realistic time frames for work
♥ Stop getting overly excited about new projects and neglecting existing ones
♥ Keep my desk tidy!

And some personal ones which should also help..

♥ Eat breakfast every day, and cut down on takeaways
♥ Drink more green tea and water and go to the gym more often
♥ Stop getting annoyed so easily and stressing myself out!
♥ Make more time for myself to have fun and relax

And most importantly...

No more talk of quitting!!!

I'll leave you with Ca Plane Pour Moi by Plastic Bertrand, which roughly translated means 'This Life's For me!"

Satellite of Love {monday musings}

Morning!

So it's Monday again, and as I've had a VERY busy weekend I'm taking the day off today.

There are a few bits and bobs that I have to sort out but apart from that I will be chilling out, reading blogs, going to the gym (which is a bit mad in this weather!) and playing with my puppy.

My song for the day is Lou Reed, Satellite of Love. I watched Morrissey perform at Glastonbury from the comfort of my living room at the weekend, and absolutely loved that he did a cover of this awesome song!

That's it for now - see you tomorrow!

Talking Heads {monday musings}

I watched Julie & Julia on Saturday night, and it was so awesome. I now want to cook everything in the Julia Child cookbook and blog about it, like Julie did. But it's been done. Oh well! But anyway, if you like food (and blogging!) you should definitely watch it!

At one point in the film, Julie has to kill a lobster for Lobster Thermidor, which leads to her husband teasing her for being a 'lobster killer' to the soundtrack of Talking Heads 'Psycho Killer' which will be my Monday Morning tune today! I love the song as it reminds me of being in the car on one of the many camping holidays with my family when I was younger and I would sing along to the "fa fa fa fa" part!

"Fa fa fa fa, fa fa fa fa fa fa, fafa! Run run run, run run run awaaaay!"

Anyway, onto my 'to do' list, which I'm kind of struggling with this week as i have no internet. And no idea when it will come back on as i've been without it since Friday now and a certain internet provider who we shall call Shmirgin Pedia are useless!

So I'm at my boyfriend's parents now replying to as many emails as possible, as although i do get them on my phone I can't attach anything so can't send out proofs or invoices or receipts! boo! I think I may have to move into Starbucks for the foreseeable future. So for now I'd like to say "SORRY!" to anybody who is awaiting work or replies for me and "THANK YOU!" for your patience!

I do, however have some things that don't require the internet, such as preparing for the oh so exciting super duper Midlands Vintage Chic Wedding Fair which is taking place next Sunday! I have lots of bits and bobs to prepare for it so that should keep me busy.

I'm so looking forward to seeting lots of lovely people there - such as Nicola from Eve Lily, Ali Lovegrove, The Butterworths, Lucy Stendall Photography, Yummy Little Cakes, Chloe Adlington from Adore by Chloe and I can't remember who else but let's just say i'm super excited! I'm also looking forward to meeting lots of lovely brides and grooms on the day!

I'm only here for another 2 hours so must leave it at that as I need to cram in as much online work as possible before going back home to the internetless flat! Boooooo!

Everyday people... {friday faves}

It's Friday! I don't know why I'm so excited though as I'm working all weekend... booo!!

I was a bit grumpy when I woke up this morning, but fixed it with an awesome feel good Friday tune! I watched Definitely Maybe last Sunday (with the delicious Ryan Reynolds) and this song played during the opening credits and has been stuck in my head ever since - i looove it!

Recap
Yet again this week i've been doing so so so well sticking to my 'more blogging' challenge, and I've found that's it's really helping me to keep track of what I'm doing, and by writing down all of my achievements and sharing them with world I feel like I'm 'doing' a lot more!

Thing
I came across this super gorgeous Annina Vogel ring on So You're Getting Married, it's so cute! If anyone would like to treat me (hint hint Joe!!) you can do so here!

♥ Person ♥

Favourite person this week is Kat from Rock n Roll Bride, who not only featured Golden Apple on her blog on Tuesday (click here to read) but has inspired me a lot this week - firstly to add a picture of myself to my About Me page which I think has made it infinitely better, secondly to create the new Sushi Lovers wedding invitation and thirdly she has given some great advice to me and Ali regarding our exciting collaboration, making the project even more exciting!

Other stuff
I was very excited to receive an invitation to the Love My Dress Summer Soiree last night, and will be there with bells on! The hunt now begins for a glamorous outfit fit for the occasion! If there are any other midlands people attending, get in touch and we'll travel down (or up?) there together!

And finally...
I have been dreaming about Paris a lot lately - i really really want to go again! I want to sit by the Seine, eat macaroons in a pretty cafe, visit the museums and galleries and stroll around the shops and bars. This picture sums it up...

The Wedding Reporter - Design Work & Photoshoot!

I first discovered the Wedding Reporter back in March, and ever since I have been a huge fan of the idea, so you can imagine how pleased and excited I was when I received an email from Emma asking for some design assistance!

Emma wanted a finished product for her reports that was extra special and could be treasured for years to come, rather than a boring and unattractive PDF or word document!

We worked together to create the finished booklet, which is handmade from top quality ivory card and features illustrations and a selection of beautiful fonts.

The images featured have been taken by the lovely Ali Lovegrove, and Laura from Purple and Pearls was their gorgeous bride for the day!

My very first outside printed order arrived today from the awesome Bamb Bamb Campaigns, and i LOVE it!

The colours are so bright, the quality is amazing and I love the fact that I don't have to cut them out as hate my rubbish old guillotine!

Ashley & Tom went for the Keep Calm and Get Married wedding invitations, and had them personalised to include their names on the front, with A6 blue for the evening invitations and A5 red for the full day invitations!

Dance dance dance {monday musings}

It's Monday again - how did that happen?!

Hope you had a funtastic weekend :)
Fajito night was awesome as always on Friday, and Saturday was spent walking around the Thurlaston Carnival: eating Hog Roast, watching the dog show, buying chutney and browsing the craft fair, followed by pints of ale in the pub and dinner with the 'in-laws'.

Yesterday I went to Lazerquest for the BF's little brother's birthday, where I was terrorised by eight 13 year old boys, and sat around the party table on a teeny tiny stool consuming chicken nuggets and chips!

Another of my 'happy songs' for you below - 'Dance Dance Dance' by Lykke Li, which I like to twirl around the living room to when things get a bit too stressful :)

I've got lots of fun bits and bobs to do and share with you this week!

I'm MOST excited about appearing super awesome wedding blog Rock n Roll bride tomorrow, but more about that then!

I'll also be sticking a few new Greetings Card designs on the website in the next few days, as well as doing some bits for the Wedding Reporter (who is back from her holibobs now, hooray!) and discussing more super awesomeness with Ali Lovegrove.

Other stuff...
♥ Catch up with emails - very important, must do this first!!
♥ Share photos from the Wedding Reporter shoot
♥ Meet with venue to finalise details for the next Leicester Wedding Club and plan the Summer BBQ!
♥ Start illustrations for a 1950's travel inspired bespoke wedding invitation
♥ Create a print for a 1st wedding anniversary, with paper origami heart
♥ Do some work on the handmade jewelery website that i've been working on
♥ Logo & banner design for a lovely wedding blog
♥ Finish create the Byron James Photography blog design
♥ Create heart bunting, a banner and tissue paper pom poms for a 70th birthday party
♥ Prepare for the Vintage Chic Wedding Fair (SO excited about this!!)
♥ Go to the gym at least twice a week until the wedding fair, or have no hope of wearing fave vintage dress
♥ Make my Dad a Father's Day card :)
♥ Take Scratch to the vets for his second jab (hooray, two weeks until i can take him for walkies!)
♥ Boring stuff - admin, clean my desk, chase invoices... blah!

Golden Apple ♥'s The Bijou Bride {Supplier Focus}

BIJOU
a definition: "something small, delicate and exquisitely wrought"
an adjective: "desirable, pleasing, elegant, fashionable, stylish, chic, sought-after, to die for"

I love The Bijou Bride - the website is super cool with it's gorgeous imagery and design, and I especially love the little "post box" and "telephone box" icons. The blog is full of unique ideas and lots of lovely inspiration.

I spoke to the Bijou Bride herself, Alexandra, to find out more...

Who are you?
Alexandra from The Bijou Bride

What do you do?
Wedding event/fashion Stylist and wedding fashion blogger

Is this your full time job or do you have a day job - if so what is it?
I do have another job too working as a Music PR consultant and stylist, today I was hanging out with Olly Murs and next week it's the Kings of Leon! I like to be busy and I think it's good to keep some perspective of the world outside of weddings. My aim with the blog and my wedding clients is to bring that contemporary edge and understanding of what's influential now.

What do you love most about what you do?
The clients. Creating those little touches and moments that make people say 'it was an awesome wedding.'

What inspires you?
I have a wild imagination which I'm sure came from reading Alice in Wonderland and Enid Blyton books when I was young. I adore hidden details in things and think they really set a wedding apart, it's something I strive to include in all my client plans.

What is the most memorable event that you’ve worked on?
Although it hasn't happened yet The Vintage Wedding Affair (Saturday 2nd July - for your diary). It is a HUGE undertaking for me, not only have I been organising the fair but I'm also styling the day and the fashion shows all within 8 weeks. I have an aversion to trestle tables and had a dream of creating something different, something Bijou. So the Vintage Wedding Affair is taking place in an active independent Emporium with all furniture and props available to buy. I think it will be a more relevant and dare I say it, trendy Wedding Fair.

And finally… anything else you’re itching to tell me?
That I think you rock!

Thanks Alexandra! :)

I think you will agree that Alexandra is a very cool lady, and that The Bijou Bride is a fabulous resource for brides to be who want to create a chic, fashionable and stylish wedding.

The Vintage Wedding Affair sounds fabulous, and a great opportunity for brides to meet lots of gorgeous and creative suppliers. It's sure to be an amazing day for all involved - if only I was London based!

If you're a bird, i'm a bird...

I am a little bit in love with The Notebook - it's such a beautiful film.
I watched it for about the 20th time on Saturday and as always I was in floods of tears by the end of it!

I wouldn't say it was my favourite film of all time, but it's up there in my top 10 - I can watch it again and again, despite knowing that I'm going to end up a sniffing, sobbing mess! Just the beginning titles are enough to make me fill up!

I just love the story, the characters, Allie's stunning 1940's outfits, the gorgeous scenery and the thought of such beautiful, amazing love.

I found this tattoo, (below) and am considering designing something similar for myself!
I like the vintage font and the birds on the design I created for the quote at the top of the post, but not sure how they would work as a tattoo - what do you think?

70th birthday invitations

I recently created some pretty pink, cream and green vintage inspired invitations for a 70th birthday party. I decided on pretty lace design with an art deco flower detail finished with tiny pale pink diamantes.

I posted the invitations yesterday and received this lovely feedback on my facebook page today...

I have just received the most amazing invitations for my Mum's 70th birthday party - beautifully wrapped and tied with a white satin ribbon. It felt like my birthday just undoing the package! Thanks so much, Leah - they're perfect! :) xx
